Lifes Little Luxuries

Shopping isn't what I'm talking about in regards to lifes little luxuries; shoes, bags and quaffing Champagne. These aren't luxuries. Lifes little luxuries are what you can't afford...buying time, time to be more fully present.

Well chosen restaurants that have fine dining, with decor and ambiance are one of lifes luxuries. As too are cocktails in luxury hotels or rooftop bars. Just not Wetherspoons!

Hair and nails may seem like you are treating yourself but they're maintenance. Just like cooking at home.

Luxuries are fresh cut flowers, made even better by taking them and making art by flower arranging. I'm always impressed when someone picks out some blooms rather than picking up a bouquet. Blousey pink peonies, rununculars is every shade, orchids (but not white), peachy pink or blood red roses, callow or stargazer lillies, hydrangeas...I'm less interested in yellows, and more pinks, oranges and purples.

Books, but more importantly, taking the time to read them. Having a curated home library. I can pick out any book in my library and know I will be engrossed. They are not there to fill a space but have been chosen and retained. I keep very few fiction books, choosing to pass them one once read. Recenly I've subscribed to the Spectator, which is a splendid read.

Scents; not just in luxury face and body creams, but essential oils that make your whole home smell divine. Don't like candles are they are often toxic, so I use electric aromastones the vaporise the essesntial oils. Love woody fire-burning smells in the depths of winter, spicy at Christmas and floral bouquets in the height of summer.

Perfumes; Paris is the perfect place to make a purchase. Le Labo for Lyse 41 or Oriza for Violette du Czar...really the list could go on and on. I like to visit the store and try them all. Taking time to envelope myself in the olfactory experience.

Bed linen is top priority. In fact, sleep is more important to me than food. I like quality food but it's not what I live for. Give me a large super kingsized bed, in a darkened room and I'm happy. In the summer I must have air con as I love my bedroom very cool. Lots of pillows of different densities. High threadcount bed linens in white only. Luxury is going to bed early to read or watch just before going to sleep. I have a very beautiful waffle style bedspread that I like instead of a duvet in the summer.

When you excercise regularly, you soon know it's a luxury, as it takes your time and money. But there is nothing better. I dislike the 30 mins walk to the pool, but I love the walk back when I'm feeling energised and refreshed. This is the time I listen to podcasts and YouTube channels. I'm constantly educating myself. I really don't think your should comment on an important subject unless you have watched or listened to hundreds of hours on that subject.

Realising that have a living parent is a blessing, and real luxury if you get on well. I've still got my father whom I see EVERY month at his home. It's a luxury for him to be in his own home, which we try our hardest to keep.

Taking time to be creative is a luxury

Art studio and sewing station are two new areas of my home that I have set up this spring. Now I need to afford myself the luxury of using more of my time in these pursuits.

Friendships mean a lot to me and I will nurture and grow ones that blossom. I not longer worry about losing any, in fact pruning out the old dead ones allows for new growth. I've never had a problem making friends. One of my oldest and most treasured friends is Frances, who is the subject of my latest podcast - What Would Kim Do? is someone I admire greatly for many reasons...amazing trans woman is one. Such a luxury to no longer care. What other people think of me is none of my business 😂

Solitude, search for meaning, meditation, poetry and intentional daydreaming are a luxury. Love putting time aside to pack and unpack when travelling. The day before I travel and the day after I don't work. It's important to me that I feel unstressed, calm and serene.

Travelling is going to be a luxury affair from now on also. 2027 on the Silverseas yacht that only accomodates 500 crusing around Japan, China and Korea.

In conclusion, life is sweet. If I could just tear myself away from social commentary online then it would be perfect ðŸĪŠ
